well, it’s the night before hand-in and i’ve accepted that it wont be finished in time, i’m a bit gutted because ive never handed in an unfinished piece of work, but i hope that it will be well received anyhow - the animation in the film itself is finished, apart from the scene with the corridoor which i had trouble on monday with and i ended up wasting a whole day which was irritating, but mainly it’s just the post production that needs doing as its only about half done, i need to colour in the second half of the film and re-do the sound,but i have two weeks after tomorrow to do this so it should be ok! ben should be available to help me with sound design so i will have pro sounding audio which will really help carry the film as audio is probably one of, if not, the most important part of the film. anyways, back to work, an all nighter is needed to get all this paperwork done, ben and pete have come round to work also, so weve got a studio atmosphere going on here, its pretty fun giving feedback on each others work and helping out…..here’s some screenshots of the film so far!

here’s the corridor setup in after effects, Luke kindly donated some time from his film to walk across to my side of the room and put this together for me – legend! itll do for now,but im not pleased with having to use it :(

just wasted a whole day doing something only to find that it doesnt work properly…..this is irritating as hell!

i had to animate the ‘simple’ zoom out shot of the corridor which lasts about 11 seconds according to the animatic….anyways,it was a waste of time because the zoom kept bouncing everywhere and i realised i had to do about 200 drawings which would take ages at this point, flash is running slow also because of the amount of frames, so to move more than 5 frames at the same time it lags and makes it really hard to see what youre doing with all the onion skins showing….anyways,unfortunately ive had to resort to making a 3d corridor in after effects which luke says he can help me do tomorrow, im not looking forward to this because its going to look too mechanical,but im going to have to get it done for the hand-in on friday,rubbish!

just had my friend, Ben, on the phone who was going to help me with foley and some final recording this week give me the bad news that hes too busy with stuff on his course right now and wont be able to do it until next week, which is rubbish, im going to have to do the sound on my own, although itll be rough, i suppose itll do for the hand-in. at least we’ll have it done in time for the exhibition! still…..gutted.

been working out the car scene, initially i was going to show my grandad and have a POV shot from the back seat, but it looked too similar to a shot in Kristian Andrews film ‘Bald Dad’ so i changed it a bit and decided to have rosary beads as the main focus in the scene, i felt it was a good way to show the audience what kind of a man he was without going into it in the narration. i quite like the way it looks, i know the hand on the steering wheel will be quite a mission to animate subtly, but should be fun.

ive been trying to come up with transitions from scene 2, with the crocodile to scene 3,because im pretty much starting again with visuals its taking me a while to come up with things that im pleased with….initially i was going to have a pill fall into the ground and flower grow from it, a hummingbird would then come into shot and feed off the flower, but it was too technical and i wanted the film to look simpler…..

ive been working with the concept of time and a clock to symbolise routine,day-to-day,frequent etc….i think im going to have some pills show up on the screen and maybe a diagram of a pancreas or something to not necessarily say what was wrong with him,but to suggest.

did the croc and the bloke running from it,its haggard as hell and animating quadrupeds is solid, even more solid is animating one that has tiny arms and legs and a massive body…………but i did it! booya
